SAFC supporters’ group Red and White Army are appealing for fans to help Sunderland Foodbanks as the impact of the Coronavirus places further strain on the community.
RAWA helped set up a successful collection point at designated fixtures during the 2018/2019 season which have continued this season thanks to the generosity of so many Sunderland fans.
Now that all matches have been postponed until the end of April RAWA are calling on supporters to help the Sunderland Foodbank who have seen a 100% increase in usage in the past 4 days. The economic impact of the Coronavirus is already hitting many in our region.
Chairman Andrew Hird said “Since we launched the partnership with the Foodbank, Sunderland fans have been so generous. We need that generosity and that sense of community more than ever. Many of us across the Sunderland supporting family are facing uncertainty and anxiety at this unprecedented time. But if you can spare the time or the money, if you have a car and can help with pick-ups and drop-offs, you can make such a difference. The amazing staff and volunteers at the Foodbank are starting to feel the strain. If you’re healthy, not classed as vulnerable or susceptible to Covid19, please do what you can.”
So, what can supporters do to help?
RAWA first of all urge volunteers to familiarise themselves with the latest government guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response
